On January 1st, Idex Online published some interesting statistics regarding the Japanese Polished Diamond Imports in October 2006 (Source: Japanese Costoms, Ministry of Finance). India is leading the race with a total of 214,648 carats sent that month, followed by Belgium with 17,911 carats. The volume difference between those 2 market leaders is pretty hudge, but after analyzing the diamond value, the gap appears to be far less impressive as India sent a total value of $42,458,580 while Belgium was generating $19,889,702.
